Acme is an organization that is looking into the possibility to convert to an IPv6 environment without needing renew any routers or switches.

They just upgraded the testbed devices to IOS 15.

They would like you to conduct a comparison between the ipv4 and their equivalent ipv6 protocols. Also, they want to know the benefits and potential problems associated with moving to a pure IPv6 environment.


You will need to produce a report that discusses any differences in the ipv4 protocols currently being used, as well as any new ipv6 protocol versions that may be needed.

It is important to discuss the changes needed to switch to an IPv6 environment. Also, what commands must be set on the devices to achieve this environment. Finally, how testing and confirmation will be done to verify that Acme can still use the existing devices in an IPv6-only setting.



Acme is required to upgrade the network to support IPv6 environments. The project will not cost the company any extra.

The company currently uses a Cisco 2811 series router. The version of IOS that runs on the router was upgraded for IPv6 support and connectivity with new devices.

While the network devices of the past were configured with Ipv4 address, it is not capable of communicating with the IPv6-enabled devices. It is therefore necessary to set up dual stack configurations for the router that includes IPv6 and IPv4 so that it can establish a connection between the Ipv6 network and the IPv4 network.

The network configuration is currently using the IPv6 addressing scheme. It has been tested to verify the packet transfer.

Discussion on Protocols

The initial function and implementation IPv6 addresses in routers can accommodate changes to the organizational network.

It is determined what the risks are associated with the implementation and creation of a scheme to address the Ipv6 addresses.

VLANs can be used to link different departments and increase the efficiency and performance the network.

VLANs make the network more flexible and secure it from outside agents.

VTPv3 allows for settlement of adjustments and introduction of underlying capacity. This allows switches to refresh any other gadget that is part of the system.

With the convention, the possibility of system disruptions can be eliminated and the system execution can be accomplished with ease.

VLANs are used to secure the transmission of information bundles throughout the system, increasing the system’s adaptability.

The traversing convention is used to send an intelligent circle through the system. It also gives reinforcement connects, enabling adaptation to non critical failures.

Ethernet channels are equipped with trunk convention to enable the VTP space and allow the other spaces to communicate using the safe channel.

Double stacking, i.e.

Double stacking is used to design the switches.

DHCP arrangement takes place on the switch and is used to apportion the IP deliver to each gadget in the system.

Inter vlan steering in the system is done by utilizing the IP directing charge. This allows the VLANs to communicate with each other.

HSRP is used for the design of system and to increase accessibility by empowering switches to act as a single interface.

System Testing and Verification Strategy

Before the organization network solution is implemented, a model of the system is built and it is tested.

Acme’s system solution is designed with the similar system in mind. The router, switch and spanning are installed and configured to ensure that the gadgets are accessible.

The interface of the router/switch is pinged on the nodes that are connected to the network. This allows for testing the connections between hosts.

For testing the availability of VLANs and the arrangement for entomb vlan routing within the system, the VLANs are pinged.

Routing is an additional feature of the switch that allows the focal switch arranged using DHCP to provide IP address to the gadgets involved in the development of the prototype network.

The topology for the IPv6 network is established and its practicality is evaluated in order to improve the system.

The Network Identified Issues

The network administrator is responsible for troubleshooting any issues that might arise during the configuration of the network.

For the configuration of the network, IPv6 addresses are used. VLANs can be configured and pinged to verify the network’s efficiency.

The network’s layer 3 switch is set up with DHCP to allocate IP addresses to each device in each VLAN.

EIGRP configurations are used for routers that connect to the network. There was a problem when mapping Ipv4 addresses into IPv6 addresses.

VLANs should be managed. Issues were also encountered during the implementation of HSRP protocol in network. A virtual MAC address should also be created.

For increased efficiency and to reduce waiting times, it is important that the network load be shared.

Research is also required to determine the difference between stateful IPv6 addresses and those that are not. The different IPv6 addresses will be used to analyze the current network solution.

Functionality And Implementation

To prepare the current network solution for the organization, and to configure the network devices using IPv6 addresses scheme, it is necessary to analyze the company’s requirements.

The device configured with Ipv4 addresses is evaluated. The IPv6 address is used to configure the dual stack network.

To configure the device with Ipv6, the software version of routers is updated and costs for new device deployment with Ipv6 address are saved.

For greater efficiency, the following functionality can be added to the network.

EIGRP and forwarding-IP routing are two methods used by the router to enable secure forwarding of data packets.

Logical Addressing- Logical address is used to configure the network so that VLANs are used according to business rules.

Routing- In order to transfer data packets successfully in the network routers are configured using different routing protocols and address schemes. This allows a host that has an IPv6 adress to connect to the organization’s network.

Routing is used to allocate the DHCP address for VLANs to which the layer three switch connects.

The position of the network layers – To increase security, the devices connected to the network must be placed according to the floor plan. Physical access to core network components should also be restricted.

Recommendations & Conclusions

The Acme system structure should be changed and IPv6 address policies implemented in the organizational network. This will improve the network’s efficiency and enable it to communicate with networks configured with IPv6 addresses.

It is important to maintain a good design for assigning IPv6 address to the devices in the network.

Additionally, the gadgets have been updated with the most current programming adaptations to enable reconfiguration with the new innovation.

Double stack communication is possible with old IPv4-enabled gadgets.

There are multiple VLANs for different branches. Inter-vlan directing can be used to interconnect with the vlans. This will increase the security and proficiency of the system.

The three switches in the system have been arranged with HSRP to create a virtual switch.
