To develop a successful career development plan, the gap analysis must be completed (Velleman 2007, 2007).

Gap analysis is a process that helps identify gaps and loops. This allows you to determine which aspects could have a significant impact on your career.

Gap analysis should evaluate all loops and gaps in detail. Strategies should be created to fill those gaps.

Gap analysis compares the actual position with futuristic aspects to get the appropriate information regarding the gab.

Gap analysis is a tool that will help to evaluate the gap between the two-year and five-year plans.

Gap analysis will aid in achieving both the goals.

Therefore, gap analysis should be performed properly to assess the gap between long-term and short-term goals (Stadter (2015)).

Career Development Theories

Career development theories offers detailed information on how to help an individual develop their career.

Individuals should strive to learn as much information as possible about their career development. This includes focusing on all aspects that can help them develop and manage a career plan.

Comparing different career development theories with my own career development plan could provide more useful and detailed information (Creed & Hughes (2012).

This will allow you to see how effective my career planning is.

Holland theory aids in understanding the behavior of people.

It helps to understand the personality types of people, such as the realistic, enterprising, artistic, scientific, and social.

RIASEC can also be called Holland theory.

It is essential to have an accurate set of information regarding one’s nature in order to create a career plan.

It is important that he understands what type of nature it is.

My career development plan could be analyzed to show that I am an enterprising individual who enjoys the opportunities which can help me become an entrepreneur.

John Krumboltz (a career theorist) has developed a Krumboltz hypothesis, also known as planned occurstance.

Krumboltz theory says that clients should be able to make indecisions and still benefit from unplanned events.

John states that many life events occur throughout a person’s lifetime. If John sets rigid plans, his career may suffer. He won’t want to seize the opportunities and will rather follow the plans.

Krumboltz theory can be compared with my career plan. It could be argued that I have set specific objectives to help me manage my career. On the other hand, the theory states that developing set plans will not lead to effective results.

The theory is completely opposite of my career development plan, and does not align with any aspects (Burns 2008).

Theory of Career Construction

Mark Savickas has developed Career Construction Theory.

According to this theory, a person’s career can be built based on the work they do.

Brown, 2014. Most people choose to follow the path they’ve been on in their learning process.

However, in my career growth I have chosen a different route. At the moment I manage 10 employees in the operations department and I would like to be a manager of the human resource department and to eventually open my own business.

The reason I chose this path is because I want the opportunity to learn how to manage people in the areas where they operate.

I will become a human resources manager and learn to understand the behavior of people. This will help me determine which types of people should work in my workplace.

This will enable me to hire and manage the right people in my company (Bronfman (2015)).

Social Cognitive theory is a relatively new theory on career development. It is based upon three interrelated factors. They are how academic and professional interest develop, how education and career choices are made, as well as how academic and professional success is achieved.
