Description

ou are going to create a
short PowerPoint presentation. You have two choices of a topic:
1. Choose the career that you are in or the degree that you are pursuing:
“Critical Thinking in ….” (Nursing, Special Education, IT, etc.)
2. Choose a particular topic or field of interest:
“Critical Thinking in …. ” (Parenting, Art, Social Justice, etc.)Remember that a key part of presentations are visuals. So please make sure that each slide has
at least one visual. Since this is about your life, consider pictures of yourself or from your own
experiences that would fit the topic of each slide. If that is not possible, find other images that
would fit the slide content. Remember to create a citation on the last slide for any images you
use from the Internet.Follow the format below to complete your presentation, which should be 9 slides:

SLIDE 1 – Introduction slide
Include your name and your topic and why you selected this topic
SLIDES 2 and 3 – Characteristics of a Good Critical Thinker
Select two characteristics of a good critical thinker. (Look back at your notes from Week 1).
Placing one trait on each slide, discuss why you believe each to be essential to your topic.
For example: For the topic of “Critical Thinking in Art,” you might choose
“creative problem solving” and then provide a personal example or some other source to show
your point: “In preparation for, sculptor Richard Serra’s retrospective at the Museum of Modern
Art, the museum faced some major technical challenges. His sculptures were too large, heavy,
and complex to install in the museum in a traditional manner, instead, museum staff developed a
plan with a team of contractors and architects to remove the entire face of the building and place
the large metal forms with cranes. This team used creative problem solving when faced with a
challenge.”
SLIDES 4 and 5 – Barriers and Resistances to Good Critical Thinking

Select two barriers/resistances to good critical thinking. (Look back at your notes from Week 1).
Placing one barrier on each slide, explain why each is most problematic for you or are typically
problematic in your field.
For example: For the topic of “Critical Thinking in Art,” the barrier “fear of challenge”
might be particularly difficult for an artist to overcome. Provide not only an explanation of WHY
this barrier/resistance is essential to overcome in your field, but also a specific example in your
topic to illustrate your point.
SLIDE 6 – Informal Fallacies
Discuss a way in which a particular informal fallacy often shows up when people think or
experience your topic. (Look back at your notes from Weeks 4 and 5). Describe how that
fallacy is often associated with your topc.
For example: For the topic of “Critical Thinking in Art,” the fallacy “hasty
generalization” may be discussed in relation to the typical portrayal of a “starving artist,” which
stereotypes all artists as in need of help, support, and funding.
SLIDES 7 and 8 – Media and Advertising Connections
Place an image or video link or other media and/or advertising resource on Slide 7 that relates to
your topic. On slide 8, evaluate how that image portrays your topic and the people related to
your topic. Use the “Questions to Consider in Evaluating Advertisements” from this week’s
material to guide your analysis.
SLIDE 9 Resources
Correctly cite all images and works used in proper APA format.
NOTE: If needed, you can create more slides if your pictures or content requires it. It is
preferred to have fewer words on each slide than full, bulky paragraphs. So if you have to divide
the material onto multiple slides, please do so. Just make sure that you present the material
